3 Reasons Cam Straps Are Ideal for Fragile Loads

If you are looking to secure loads on a trailer or in the back of a pickup truck, you have countless options. You can choose rope or bungee cords or straps with a polyester webbing. Straps come with many different securing styles: ratchet straps, traditional buckle straps for lighter loads, cam straps, and then Rollercam®.

Our cam straps are the ideal choice when dealing with fragile loads. We recommend them for anything, and everything, even breakable items or have unprotected edges that could otherwise be damaged by overtightening a ratchet strap. Rollercam® straps give you the right balance between strength and firmness without the increased risk of securing loads too tightly.

More Precise Tightening

Our cam strap's most significant advantage is the cam itself. Once you thread your strap through the Rollercam® cam buckle, you determine how tightly the strap is secured simply by pulling on it. And because our cams eliminate almost all the friction between buckle and strap, you can quickly make minor adjustments. The cam strap gives you a lot more sensitivity to get just the right amount of force where you need it.

You won't feel that sensitivity with ratchet straps because each ratchet crank is a predetermined tightening force. If you're at the point of being almost too tight but still not tight enough to keep your load secured, one more crank could be too much and damage your load. But there is nothing you can do.

Traditional cam buckle straps can be equally challenging to use on fragile loads. Because the strap directly contacts the body of the buckle, there is added friction in play. It is easy to assume the strap is not tight enough, causing you to pull down harder to get rid of the slack. Pull too hard, and you might damage your fragile cargo.

Easy to Deploy

Our cam straps have another advantage: they are easy to deploy – seriously. You can tighten a strap with one hand. As the webbing material roles across the roller, the cam gives you added leverage. You don't have to yank with two hands to secure most loads. Pull with moderate force with one hand until the strap is tight enough and you're good to go.

When you are ready to release the load, just press your thumb on the release, and the cam immediately releases the tension on the strap. Now the Rollercam® design works to your advantage in the opposite direction. The strap pulls easily away, and that's that.

Kayaks, Canoes, and Rubber Boats

Our cam straps are so effective that you can use them to rig a rubber boat with very minimal risk to the watercraft itself. We have had customers use our cam straps for kayaks and canoes as well. The cam strap firmly holds everything in place with a minimum risk of potential damage. Position the buckle properly, and you don't have to worry about it interfering with the boat.

We recommend cam straps to all outdoor sports enthusiasts. They are perfect for anglers, boaters, water skiers and tubers, and even personal watercraft owners. Cam straps are ideal for tent campers and backpackers who carry everything they need on their backs.

If you are looking to secure any type of load deemed even a little bit fragile, ratchet straps probably aren't your best bet. Bungee cords might work, but will they provide enough tension to secure the load? As for the rope, nothing more needs to be said. Webbing straps are the way to go. And if you are going to use straps, use Rollercam® straps.
