Why Cam Strap Design Matters to Us

Why Cam Strap Design Matters to Us

Rollercam makes cam straps for overlanding, camping, and a full array of outdoor adventure activities. We take great pride in our patented cam buckle design. But even though our cam buckle design is unique, we strategically design each element of the straps you buy.

We believe a truly effective cam strap is tough enough to withstand various conditions. It is resilient enough to be used time and again in a variety of weather situations. It is also easy to use, store, and adapt to multiple load securement scenarios. To meet these big goals, you need the best design.

More than the RollerCam Buckle

If you’re here, you’ve probably already discovered the technology behind our patented Rollercam® buckle. But we will say this about our cam buckle: the roller gives you maximum control over the amount of force you apply to secure your cargo.

Significantly reducing the friction between cam and strap means less force is required to both tighten and loosen. You can pull down as hard as possible for maximum force and still achieve total tightening security. But you can also gently finesse the strap to achieve just the right amount of strength for any particular application.

Waterproof Webbing

Our Classic and Expedition cam straps are made with polypropylene, a waterproof webbing material. Polypro is hydrophobic, meaning it does not absorb water. This matters significantly if you are into whitewater rafting or any other water sport. Even when a strap gets wet, it still offers a tactile experience. You will still feel the strap in your hands rather than slipping through your fingers.

The last thing you need when tying things down in bad weather is being unable to feel the cam strap in your hand. You should be able to grip it tightly enough to pull it down without worries of slippage.

Built-In UV Protection

We also believe it is vital to equip cam straps with built-in UV protection. Ultraviolet rays can do a number on just about any material, including the webbing material cam straps are made of. Given that cam straps spend so much time in the great outdoors, designing them with built-in UV protection seems like a no-brainer.

Remember that our straps are all-weather proof, but extended time in the elements will degrade the strap faster than properly stored straps.

Strap and Buckle Construction

The webbing material used in our straps is strong by design. But the overall strength of any webbing product is affected by both construction and material choice. We feel very strongly about making choices that ultimately lead to our cam straps being rugged and durable. This includes our triple bar tack stitching design to prevent unnecessary wear on the strap.

Material choices are equally crucial for our cam buckle. We have chosen Zamak 5, a family of alloys based in zinc. Zamak alloys combine zinc with elements like copper, magnesium, and aluminum. Our buckle body is made from diecast Zamak 5, while the rest of the components are either marine brass or stainless steel. The result is a cam buckle built for toughness.

Designed for the Outdoors

The natural world is as beautiful as it is destructive. This is why cam strap design is essential to us. What good is it if you have a cam strap that cannot handle the changing elements? Fortunately, this is not a problem with Rollercam straps. Our cam straps are created for the outdoors in order to endure the outdoors.
